Energy and Climate: Introducing the C3S Webinars Series led by ICS
As a C3S Global Energy Climate service collaborator and service provider, for the past two years ICS has designed and successfully delivered a number of webinars to global participants showcasing C3S climate products. The webinars are aligned with the C3S mission to offer free and open-access data and tools made available to a wide array of users and for a variety of purposes, based on the best available science to provide authoritative and consistent information on climate change.
The three most recent webinars – Global Climate Indicators, Global Wind and Solar Power Indicators, Global Hydro Power and Electricity Demand Indicators – are part of a series of six webinars, all chaired by ICS CEO Prof Alberto Troccoli. For each, the globally located participants enjoyed gaining insights from expert speakers and contributing by engaging in two-way discussions.
The informative presentations across the series were: Dr Nube Gonzalez-Reviriego on C3S operational service for the energy sector, Dr Letizia Lusito on wind speed scaling, Stefano Campostrini on tools for climate data processing and the global wind power energy indicator, Dr Rodrigo Amaro e Silva on the global solar photovoltaic energy indicator, Giovanni Aldrigo on the global hydro power energy indicator, Henri Upton on electricity demand modelling (generalized additive models), and Prof Alberto Troccoli on electricity demand modelling (energy degree days proxy).
We aim to provide a programme that will be of interest to our diverse range of stakeholders, and if you missed the live presentations all are available to view via the specific event recordings.
ICS expertise in climate data
Back in 2021, Prof Alberto Troccoli from the World Energy & Meteorology Council joined forces with Prof Marco Borga and Dr Mattia Zaramella from the University of Padua to launch Inside Climate Service (ICS).
The trio brought together knowledge of the challenges to global sectors – such as energy, agriculture, water, insurance, infrastructure, and education – brought about by climate-related changes and recognised they had the combined expertise to offer solutions to mitigate risks by offering accurate climate data to predict how climate could impact a sector.
Their combined expertise also fed into the Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S), a European programme set up to support society with information about the past, present and future climate in Europe and the rest of the world. These webinars are an introduction to C3S services for the energy sector.
We will be hosting another webinar in October , so stay tuned and follow us on LinkedIn so you don’t miss it!
